Business Limerick Review for Freddy's Restaurant | Award-Winning Restaurant, Theatre Lane, Limerick City

Business Limerick Review

What a Find!! Freddy's is unique. It is tucked away in historical Theatre Lane, which was home to the famous Playhouse Theatre, where Richard Harris amongst others tread the boards with the College Players.

This beautifully restored 19th century building houses this contemporary buzzing restaurant It still retains much of its original character and charm, with its natural stone walls and rich wooden floors. The atmosphere is cosy, relaxed and friendly.

We visited the restaurant on a Thursday and it was buzzing with diners, from intimate settings of two to groups of twelve or more on a corporate night out, or maybe unwinding from a tough day on the golf course! All contributing to a most unique atmosphere with their laughter and banter.

Proprieter Liz Phelan, a most delightful and knowledgeable host, showed us to our table, and enlightened us to the specials and recommendations of her culinary delights. In addition, Liz told us that, every dish is cooked to order so any special dietary requirement could be satisfied.

On Liz's advice, we sampled a Chilean Red wine, Urmenata Merlot, as we contemplated the delectable menu. The wine was superb, oak smoked and full bodied… an excellent choice.

For Starters, we had fresh Galway Bay Mussels in a Chardonnay Cream, Clonakilty Black Pudding with a Seed Mustard Sabayon. The Warm Cheese in Filo Parcels, with an Apple and Wild Berry Jam ... delicate and a memorable combination, whilst imbibing the velvety Merlot. Excellent choice of Starters was the unanimous verdict.

On to Main course, Fillet Steak served with a Perigourdine Sauce, was cooked to perfection, tender and delicious. Medallions of Pork with a fresh herb centre, with a Thyme and Cider Sauce ... this marriage of Cider and Pork was so enjoyable. Monkfish baked with Ginger, accompanied with an Leafy Orange Salad… Exquisite. One of our diners, who is vegetarian, feasted on The Nut Roast, she described it as exciting and well worth returning for.

No wonder this restaurant won the Best Restaurant in Limerick, voted by the Epicurean World Master Chef's Society.

Sweet Endings, as they call it in Freddy's, are sinful and have an irresistable effect. We opted for the Nutty Pancake lavished in Chocolate, Hot Sticky Toffee Pudding. Irish Farmhouse Cheese board, with Vintage Port. Classic Creme Brulee & Pistachio Biscuits, so melt in your mouth perfect, it made us want to kiss the chef!

To sit back and relax with Irish Coffee after such a fantastic treat the senses, was a wonderful pleasure. The service was splendid with friendly efficient and knowledgeable staff. The quality and variety of Freddy's menu is exceptional and a credit to the proprietor. Chatting to Liz before we departed, I commented on not having visted Freddy's in quite a while, but I can assure you that it won’t be long until we’re back again I I recommend this restaurant with the highest praise and regard, for excellent service and value, but above all wonderful food.

Well done to Liz, keep up the great work and congratulations on being June Restaurant of the Month.
